The Eco-Schools programme is an international initiative that encourages pupils to engage with environmental and sustainable development issues. The programme covers nine topic areas: Litter, Waste, Transport, Healthy Living, Energy, Water, Biodiversity, School Grounds and Global Citizenship. We are delighted to have been awarded our Bronze and Silver Eco-Schools Awards in recognition of the work we have done so far and we are now busy working towards our Gold Award.
ECO SCHOOLS COMMITTEE
St David’s Eco-Committee is made up of six pupils from Form 1 upwards, who meet every week under the supervision of Mrs McKie. All of the committee are enthusiastic and eager to make St David’s an eco-friendly school. They have lots of great ideas on recycling, energy conservation, litter and gardening, to name but a few, and they will be reporting back to the whole school on a regular basis. We look forward to an exciting year ahead with our Eco-Committee!
If you have any ideas or issues that you would like discussed, then please speak to one of the members who will forward your thoughts to the rest of the Eco-Committee.
Currently our Eco-Committee are working on reducing food waste. They will be monitoring and weighing the amount of food that each class wastes at both lunchtime at snack-time and, whilst taking into account class sizes, they will be handing out awards to the class that wastes the least each month.
