The PE/Games Curriculum

Here at St David’s School, PE & Games is seen as a subject which is important to all children. It is delivered to a high quality to improve a child’s health & fitness, to gain understanding of how to compete fairly, as well as ensuring it’s a subject enjoyed by them all.

As a school we have several teams which compete regularly in fixtures and competitions with other schools. Examples of this are in football, netball, hockey, tag rugby, swimming and cross country. Every child is given the opportunity during their time at St David’s to represent the school and feel a valued team player.

For Games lessons, we use our multi-purpose field which has access to an astro-turf court, 2 netball courts and a sports pavilion. These are located very close to the school on the opposite side of the road and is just a 2 minute walk away for the children. These facilities provide the opportunity for children to play and compete in a variety of sports, host matches and fixtures as well as providing an additional teaching space in the pavilion. The curriculum for games covers a wide variety of activities and sports throughout the year such as hockey, cricket, korfball and athletics to name a few.

For PE lessons, facilities on the school site are used, both in the school hall and using our two playgrounds. During PE, children progress through their dance and gymnastics skills as well as taking part in ball skills and leadership activities.
