Today we were treated to a very special Diwali assembly by Nabhinandan Das from @live.veda.
With the help of some budding St David’s actors, Nab retold the story of Rama and Sita. In one of the main stories in Hindu mythology, Diwali is the day Lord Rama, his wife Sita Devi and brother Lakshmana return to their homeland after 14 years in exile. The villagers lit a path for Rama, who had defeated the demon king Ravana.
Nab told us that one message we can take from Diwali is to ‘always be good’.
Diwali, the festival of light, can be celebrated with fireworks, lighting candles, diva lamps, making Rangoli patterns, lots of food and special sweets and by giving presents. Our actors for the morning were given their own present of a very useful vegetarian and vegan cook book.
We thoroughly enjoyed learning about this festival today, and all of the singing too!
